Who’d Like Some Tea?

I don’t know about you, but watching our government spend our money, our children’s money, our grandchildren’s money, their grandchildren’s money is kinda getting annoying. Being a fiscal conservative, I wasn’t always thrilled about the spending going on during the Bush administration, particularly last fall’s stimulus bill. Ask my husband or co-workers, I ranted and raved about that for weeks.

Then our new president took office and, well, okay…I’m not going be nice about this, but him, his administration, and Congress have been like a gang of giddy robbers running around inside the gold vault in Fort Knox. Every time I turn around I’m hearing of more of our tax money that they’re spending, yet how many of those idiots are behind on their own taxes??? I digress.

So I am fed up with hearing about how during an economic slowdown that our so-called leaders have decided to spend, spend, spend. The rest of America is tightening up their budgets, using coupons, renting movies instead of going to the theater, making crappy $3.00 frozen pizza instead of ordering delivery, bringing a lunch to work instead of eating out, and using their tax refunds to pay off their bills instead of making a big purchase. Meanwhile our government is so out of touch with the American People that it is creating so-call stimulus bills that will spend hundreds of billions of our hard-earned dollars (I won’t get into what I think of what they’re actually spending it on…don’t need to go completely off the deep end). Then they created this multi-trillion dollar spending budget.

Do you have any concept of how much a trillion is?

I don’t. But I do know that approximately a billion minutes ago was the year 106 AD….one thousand nine hundred three years ago.

So that means a trillion minutes ago was, well, my calculator tells me a trillion minutes ago was one million, nine hundred two thousand, five hundred eighty-seven years ago. That seems to predate most calendars I’m familiar with, but according to this site, that was approximately when humans started walking upright, though we hadn’t quite mastered fire yet.

Yeah…that’s a trillion minutes ago.

So since that is an obscene, unreal amount of our money we’re talking about, I have decided I am going to go on Wednesday, Tax-Day, to stand in the rain to attend the Tea Party being organized at Lafayette Park, across from the White House.

Despite what some radically misinformed people are saying (who will not get any credit on this site)

  • these Tea Parties being organized all over the nation are open to everyone who is frustrated with the reckless spending and taxing of the nation, and/or are irritated with how our own government is trampling all over our Constitution
  • these events will be legal, peaceful demonstrations, many of the events around the nation will have special speakers and music
  • the Tea Parties are not being run by “racist fringe groups”
  • planners and supporters are asking that if we get some offensive groups protesting us, that we calmly turn away and ignore them.

In short,

The Tea Party effort is just a small piece of a much larger movement aimed at restoring the basic free-market principles our country was built on. The Constitution, for the most part, is being ignored by our current government and we intend on working together to correct the problem.

The Tea Party effort is a grassroots, collaborative volunteer organization made up of every day American citizens from across the country. We take pride in the fact that we’ve built a 50 state network of leaders and activists using nothing more than the internet, a few websites and a burning desire to restore freedom.

(peacefully and respectfully pilfered from Tax Day Tea Party)

Interested in joining a local Tea Party near you? Check out these sites for information and for listings near you (last I checked, there were over 500 locations, nation-wide):

If you are going, please let me know! I’ll link to you…and if you’re going to the DC Tea Party, look for me, I’d love to see you!

**quick update…if all the dang spending hasn’t encouraged you to attend a Tea Party, maybe this crap will: Department of Homeland Security takes aim at Conservatives, including military Vets.**

This is a blog where I will share my adventures and mundane tasks as a work-out-of-home-mom. I now have 2 kids and my wonderful husband, so the juggling has gotten a little bit more tricky (man-on-man defense). We also have 2 dogs and 3 cats (we used to have 4) so as you can imagine, our household is pretty busy. Since I never feel like I'm being listened to, I figured I'll just start talking at the general Internet community and see what happens.

You better be careful, because you are now going to be targeted by the DHS as a right-wing radical! Get in line, right? We have several of them here in the Chicago area, unfortunately I will be at the Cubs-Rockies game. Maybe I can get a sign on TV. I hear that there is going to be another big deal on the fourth of July in DC. I just hope that we can keep up the fervor and intensity to get the MORONS out of there, I mean if we can get Congress to change hands in 2010, then maybe, just maybe, we won’t have to deal with a huge tax increase in 2011. Personally, I think I’m gonna move to Texas. At least they understand the tenth amendment about States’ rights.

All that to say I am with you 100% on this.

AMEN to that. With a 6 month old and a 4 year old to feed, our belts have gotten considerably tighter. What aggravates me the most is that the only ones who are benefiting from the “bailouts” are people who bought houses they knew they couldn’t afford and the banks who wrote the mortgages for said houses. Meanwhile, those of us who have consistently paid our mortgages and bills are told that there is no help for us, but please go buy a new car or refinance your house to help “stimulate” the economy!

Wish I could have been there with you –
